Cineatrix is a Kimeki, iPressl and MIT collaboration.

In collaboration with the MIT Edgerton Outreach program and iPressl in Austria in Europe, KIMEKI is working on a new project, Cineatrix.

The original idea stemmed from the knowledge that there is a new generation of children who are digital natives, kids who haven’t known a world without iPods and digital cameras, let alone a comfort level with computers.

An MIT student from Austria, Dipl. Ing. Daniel Pressl, is now working on a new idea for the project, Cineatrix. This will combine film, theatre and comics. There are two main thoughts to this program.

CINEATRIX: First and foremost, as a means of story-telling, children will be able to take movies, add special effects to the movies and be able to tell their stories in never imagined ways. The goal for the end of the course is every child will be able to bring a DVD home, to which they have contributed through filming, editing or storytelling.

KIMEKI: The second aim is that children, between 10 and 15 years old, get to teach their technological know-how in media and videography to children between 5 and 10. This extraordinary, media-pedagogical concept has proven to show great possibilities and a new way of learning for children and has been running for the past 4 years, in Austria.

We run parallel sessions in which the older children are trained on our particular hardware/software to do the filming, editing and other finishing stages, and have the older children then turn around and teach these same skills to the Storytellers, the younger children.

2 Exhibitions open at MIT: Sloan E-52 and Stata Center

2fast4u presents about 30 prints, as well as an interactive object “The Piddler”. Again, there is are 2 live feed booths which connect the two exhibitions with Austria:

Schüler und Professoren der HTL Wolfsberg und des Stiftsgymnasiums St. Paul, in Kärnten, arbeiten mit Professoren und Studenten des MIT (Massachussets Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA) an einer Hochgeschwindigkeits Photographie und Videographie Ausstellung.

Durch Vermittlung des Wolfsbergers und Begründers von 2fast4u, DI Daniel Pressl (http://www.ipressl.com), der zurzeit am MIT seine Doktorarbeit schreibt, kam diese äußerst interessante Kooperation zustande. Es war nur wenig Überzeugungsarbeit bei den zuständigen Stellen des MIT notwendig, um die Einwilligung zu diesem Projekt zu erhalten.

“2fast4u war zuerst nur eine Idee, die nun zu einer Kooperation zwischen zwei Kontinenten gewachsen ist. Wissenschaft und Kunst vereinigen sich in dieser Ausstellung und die Neugier eines Wissenschaftlers das Unbekannte zu erforschen, wird plötzlich leicht verständlich, wenn man auf einmal Dinge sieht, die zuerst für das menschliche Auge und Verstand zu begreifen waren. Die Ausstellung soll die Neugier und Faszination an der Wissenschaft bei Jung und Alt erwecken und wird in Zukunft mit mehreren Projekten über das Jahr verteilt weiter geführt werden. Die Schüler, Studenten, Professoren und Mithelfer von 2fast4u sind begeistert bei der Sache, nicht nur die Kooperation mit den Kontaktpersonen am MIT zu pflegen, sondern vor allem ihre Aufgabe, physikalische Experimente zum Thema Stroboskop-Phänomene durchzuführen, zu bewältigen. Auch ihre Werke werden Teil der Ausstellung sein. Jedermann/frau kann mit diesen Objekten nach Lust und Laune interagieren.“ ~DI Daniel Pressl

Vom 30.03.2007 bis zum 19.04.2007 findet im Kulturzentrum (KUSS) Wolfsberg, Kärnten, die Ausstellung (http://www.redwired.org/2fast4u) statt. 2fast4u zeigt neben Projektarbeiten der Schüler, insbesondere, faszinierende Bilder zum Thema Hochgeschwindigkeitsphotographie. Die meisten dieser Bilder wurden von Professoren und Studenten des Edgerton Center am MIT (http://web.mit.edu/Edgerton) angefertigt und sind erstmals in einer öffentlichen Ausstellung zu sehen. Auch Martin Waugh, “Gastphotograph” der Ausstellung, wird seine unglaublichen Flüssigkeistsskulpturen (http://www.liquidsculpture.com) ausstellen.

Die physikalischen Objekte der Ausstellung (allesamt von Schüler/innen HTL Wolfsberg und des Stiftsgymnasiums St. Paul angefertigt), sind faszinierende praktische Objekte, die den Besuchern die Faszination dieser Photographie und Wissenschaft näher bringen werden. Die Objekte werden vollständig interaktiv sein und die Besucher werden sogar die Möglichkeit haben ein Hochgeschwindigkeitsbild von sich und einem zerplatzenden Ballon zu fotografieren.

„Wir haben uns viel umgesehen im Laufe der Organisation der Ausstellung, aber es hat den Anschein, dass die Ausstellung die grösste Hochgeschwindigkeits Photographie Ausstellung der Welt geworden ist!“, sagt DI Daniel Pressl mit Stolz auf 2fast4u und seine Mithelfer.

Mr. Bob Edgerton, der Sohn des “Erfinders” dieser Technik wird es sich nicht nehmen lassen persönlich bei der Ausstellungseröffunung in Wolfsberg, am 30. März um 19:00, anwesend zu sein und eine kurze Einführung zum Thema geben. Von ihm, bzw seinem Vater werden ebenfalls erstmals in Österreich Bilder zu sehen sein.

Am Donnerstag, dem 15.03.2007, um 17 Uhr fand im KUSS Wolfsberg bereits eine Pressekonferenz zur Ausstellung statt, wobei eine Online-Verbindung ans MIT, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, bestand, wo Herr DI Daniel Pressl und Dr. Jim Bales (derzeitiger Vize-Leiter des Edgerton Centers) der Presse für Fragen zur Verfügung stand. Dabei wurde auch eine Verbindung zu Seattle hergestellt und Bob Edgerton und sein klassisches Haydn-Quintett boten ein musikalisches Gustostück über den Ozean nach Wolfsberg. Vor Ort in Wolfsberg waren u. a. Herr BGM Dr. Gerhard Seifried, Herr Dr. DI J. Persoglia (HTL Wolfsberg), Herr Dir. Mag. P. P. Kaimbacher (Stiftsgymnasium St. Paul), Di H. Longin, Professoren und Schüler der HTL und des Stiftsgymnasiums St. Paul im Lavanttal.

Am 30.März wird der LIVE Stream wiederhergestellt und öffentlich zugänglich sein über die Seite http://www.redwired.org/2fast4u. Eine Vorschau ist bereits jetzt im Netz unter http://www.redwired.org/tmp/2fast4u zu sehen. So werden Besucher der Ausstellung mit Schülern der Schulen St. Paul und HTL Wolfsberg, sowie auch mit Studenten am MIT (live mit Video und Ton) Kontakt aufnehmen können.
